WebUtility Matrix

A massive collection of utilities built at speed with AI, exploring the limits of independent development.

Background (Why)

I had been watching countless videos on AIassisted independent development and wanted to transition from spectator to builder. This project marked my decision to stop dreaming and start shipping. Lacking a specific “killer app” idea, I hypothesized that speed was my competitive edge. I tried a “quantity over quality” strategy: using AI to rapidly build a massive volume of small tools, hoping one would catch a traffic wave.

What I Built (What)

A unified web app containing over 100 simple frontend utilities, such as image compression, format conversion, and text processing. I later iterated to add more complex features like P2P LAN file transfer and a guitar tuner. Source Code: jiachaoDing/mytoolsmatrix Deployed on Cloudflare Workers for zerocost hosting. Active development ran from late December 2025 to early January 2026.

Outcome (Result)

I wrote a technical article on CSDN sharing how I built the site in 24 hours, which served as a good closure for the development phase. Commercially, it was a flop. Google Search Console reported only 3 organic clicks from launch to sunset. Because I used free infrastructure, the project cost $0, costing only my time. I decided to freeze the project as it became clear that organic traffic wouldn’t materialize.

Key Takeaways

The Joy of Creation: Despite the failure, this project hooked me. I discovered that I genuinely love the process of building with AI, regardless of the outcome. Technical Growth: I gained deep familiarity with the Cloudflare ecosystem Market Reality: I learned the hard way that simple wrapper tools are a dead end for SEO. Future projects need to solve harder problems to be viable.
